What I eat today…

Posted in Photos, Food, Hobbies, Blog, Leisure on July 5th, 2008 by ahwe!

1. Lunch at Rong Liang 榮亮閤 @ Clementi

This restaurant (kopitiam actually) selling Hong Kong styled roasted pork, char siew, chicken and duck rice. Perhaps not the best in town, but easily one of the cheapest one. I always come here to satisfy my crave of saucy juicy char siew whenever I pass by this area.

Lotus Root Double Boiled Soup 蓮藕烈火神湯

ONLY S$4.00

I ride there with Dahon Curve D3, and with the help of public transport.

How to get there? Take bus number 30 or 51, alight opposite Ginza Plaza, walk through the Food Market is the block 725.

2. Dinner at Geylang Claypot Rice @ Lorong 33

This claypot chicken rice is really yummy. If you don’t mind the waiting time, eating by the road side, and the weird on-lookers passing by your table, if you are a claypot-lover, this is a must-try.

FMHO, this is even better than the one @ Clementi Block 328. What we have ordered:

Double Boiled / Sun-dried Vegetable Soup 菜干燉湯

Sweet & Sour Prawn stir-fried with Fresh Fruits 鮮果炒蝦球

and of course the Claypot Chicken Rice for 2 pax… 當然少不了瓦煲雞魬

photo-0103.jpg
Total S$41.40. Slight expensive but we guess it must be the succulent prawns that cost the bill.

Lorong 33 Geylang, you hardly can miss it as the shop is facing the main road.

Operating hours: 1130am-230pm, 5pm-12mn. Close on Monday.

You can place the order before you go, or else have to wait for at least 30 minutes.

16 of us, all Dahon owners. 34km of fun ride from East Coast Park (Carpark F2) to Changi Village, and back. 2 hours of pedaling, its my first time to join the group and virgin (long) run for my Dahon Curve D3.

My bike’s (rear) tube blew up. Lucky enough there is spare one for replacing. Very enjoyable ride despite of this small accident.

Sony Alpha 350

Posted in Gadget, Photos, Hobbies on March 4th, 2008 by ahwe!

Sony has announced 3 DSLR models in the span of one month to cater the entry-level photograher who wish to switch to DSLR.

Sony’s 3 new DSLRs are the Alpha 200 (A200), A300 and A350. While the A200 is obviously the low-end model, the price difference is merely US$100 from the next-tier A300. Feature-wise, the A300 introduces “Quick AF Live View” and a tiltable LCD monitor, making the A300 series the first DSLR that gives the true live view experience of a compact digital cameras.

Until now, live view implementation on DSLRs has a limitation of not able to do auto-focus while viewing live images, due to the AF sensor built at the pentaprism, available only when the viewfinder mirror is down. Sony gets around this by introducing a second AF sensor to do the job while the viewfinder mirror is up.

The difference between A300 and A350 is just a higher megapixel count of 14.2MP on the A350.

Should I get this for myself as 30’s birthday gift? So tempted. The kits (with one 18-70mm lens) price range should be around SGD1399.

Ma Office Fish Tank

Re-vamped the office fish tank on last weekend. It looks more greener now and fish are swimming (can see from their face) more happily in it.

To help maintain the fish tank I wrote a short Memo to my fellow colleagues:

Dear Colleagues,

READ BEFORE YOU FEED THE FISH

We all love to see a fish tank with planted greens and crystal clear water, but not all know that to maintain the tank requires hard-work and care.

Appreciate if you can follow the below to upkeep our lovely fish tank:

1. Feeding Tips & Guides
● All fish are “ーopportunistic feeder”。ア, always look hungry and scoot to the top of the water when someone approach. Its stomach is relative to the size of its eye, so don’t fooled by them. DO NOT OVERFEED.
● Uneaten food will sink and trap inside the filter, then decomposed and become hazardous to the fish.
● As the food “rots” it produces fertilizer, this will cause algae blooming.
****IMPORTANT*****
- Feeding with only adequate amount of food, up to 3 times per day
- All food should be consumed within 3-5 minutes
- Remember to TURN OFF the surface skimmer before feeding. If not all flakes/food will be sucked into filter instead of going into fish stomach.
- To turn off surface skimmer, simply twist the black stick clockwise. The water will stop from running into it.
- Anti-clockwise to turn it on… you will see the water running on different level inside the translucent tube.

2. Lights
● Do not leave the light on more than 12 hours a day - this will disrupt fish’s sleeping habits (remember, they don’t have eyelids) and ultimately lead to stress and possible death.
● Besides, it also will cause algae blooms.
● That’s why we bought the auto-timer, from 9am to 6pm the light will be switched on, automatically. Do not geh kiang go and change or unplugged it to another power point.

Thanks for reading.

Regards,
Fishlover
