Eight Ancient Capitals (八大古都)

China’s eight ancient capitals, in Chinese territory, have become national or regional ancient urban in many areas. However, people often talk about several of the most important of which is, first of the famous “Four Great Ancient Capitals” namely, Beijing (北京), Xi’an (西安), Luoyang (洛阳) and Nanjing (南京). Subsequently, they formed “Six AncientCapitals” during 80s of the last century, two more cities added into the list are Kaifeng (开封) and Hangzhou (杭州). Then Anyang (安阳) became the “Seven Ancient Capitals” and just recently in year 2004, Zhengzhou (郑州) has became the number 8th to form the “Eight Ancient Capitals”.

Xi’an (西安)

Among these eight cities, Xi’an known as one of the most important one in Chinese history. Xi’an is listed as one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China because it has been the capital of 13 dynasties, including the Zhou, Qin, Han and Tang. It has more than 3100 years of history.

Besides in China, Xi’an has also been considered as one of the four ancient capital cities in the world, famed together with Athens, Rome and Cairo.

I wish I can visit all eight cities and Xi’an will be my first destination.

If you think the largest city on earth (in term of population) is Tokyo or Shanghai, you would be wrong.

In latest statistic calculated by Population Reference Bureau, the largest city on earth is Seoul, South Korea. It has more than 10.3 million citizens and some 51 percent of the public beliefs that the figure continues to grow.

São Paulo or Saint Paul, the capital of Brazil comes in 2nd, with 10 million of population, follow by Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, India with 9.9 million of human beings.

In 1996, the original Tomb Raider was launched. The original Tomb Raider sold over seven million copies and is still heralded as an absolute classic and one of the best action adventure games ever.
