Re-vamped the office fish tank on last weekend. It looks more greener now and fish are swimming (can see from their face) more happily in it.
To help maintain the fish tank I wrote a short Memo to my fellow colleagues:
Dear Colleagues,
READ BEFORE YOU FEED THE FISH
We all love to see a fish tank with planted greens and crystal clear water, but not all know that to maintain the tank requires hard-work and care.
Appreciate if you can follow the below to upkeep our lovely fish tank:
1. Feeding Tips & Guides
● All fish are “ーopportunistic feeder”。ア, always look hungry and scoot to the top of the water when someone approach. Its stomach is relative to the size of its eye, so don’t fooled by them. DO NOT OVERFEED.
● Uneaten food will sink and trap inside the filter, then decomposed and become hazardous to the fish.
● As the food “rots” it produces fertilizer, this will cause algae blooming.
● ****IMPORTANT*****
- Feeding with only adequate amount of food, up to 3 times per day
- All food should be consumed within 3-5 minutes
- Remember to TURN OFF the surface skimmer before feeding. If not all flakes/food will be sucked into filter instead of going into fish stomach.
- To turn off surface skimmer, simply twist the black stick clockwise. The water will stop from running into it.
- Anti-clockwise to turn it on… you will see the water running on different level inside the translucent tube.

2. Lights
● Do not leave the light on more than 12 hours a day - this will disrupt fish’s sleeping habits (remember, they don’t have eyelids) and ultimately lead to stress and possible death.
● Besides, it also will cause algae blooms.
● That’s why we bought the auto-timer, from 9am to 6pm the light will be switched on, automatically. Do not geh kiang go and change or unplugged it to another power point.
Thanks for reading.
