Sony Alpha 350

Posted in Gadget, Photos, Hobbies on March 4th, 2008 by ahwe!

Sony has announced 3 DSLR models in the span of one month to cater the entry-level photograher who wish to switch to DSLR.

Sony’s 3 new DSLRs are the Alpha 200 (A200), A300 and A350. While the A200 is obviously the low-end model, the price difference is merely US$100 from the next-tier A300. Feature-wise, the A300 introduces “Quick AF Live View” and a tiltable LCD monitor, making the A300 series the first DSLR that gives the true live view experience of a compact digital cameras.

Until now, live view implementation on DSLRs has a limitation of not able to do auto-focus while viewing live images, due to the AF sensor built at the pentaprism, available only when the viewfinder mirror is down. Sony gets around this by introducing a second AF sensor to do the job while the viewfinder mirror is up.

The difference between A300 and A350 is just a higher megapixel count of 14.2MP on the A350.

Should I get this for myself as 30’s birthday gift? So tempted. The kits (with one 18-70mm lens) price range should be around SGD1399.

Kukup, Pekan Nanas and Ramly

Posted in Photos, Travel, Food, Blog on March 3rd, 2008 by ahwe!

We have actually planned to visit Kukup on Saturday evening because Singapore is dull just to satisfy the crave for seafood. We left our place at 530pm.

However we changed our mind after seeing a long vehicle queue at the Tuas checkpoint. Not a very good time to leave at this hour, and partly because of the fugitive, the security scan is intensive. So we went to Night Safari instead that evening. The plan of going to Kukup for seafood was scrapped.

Well, not actually. Then the next day, we had a day trip to Kukup…

Driving from Singapore to Kukup is very convenient. It’s about 1-2 hour drive away from Tuas depends on the traffic condition. Just look for the signboard indicates Pontian and there is only one way to Kukup once you have reached to Pontian Kechil. map.

We reached the destination at 3pm. We had a leisure walk in the Air Masin Fishing Village and took many photos. For your information if you are not aware, the whole village is entirely built above the swamp, elevated by either bamboos or concrete piles. It is an eye-opening experience for a kid (not me hor) who grown up in urban city. And please do bare with the fishy and sea water smell.

However we missed the opportunity to visit to the largest mangrove park at Kukup Island because the park is closed (5pm). So we had no other choice than booked a boat tour visit to the Kelong. RM5 each.

We skipped the seafood here because it was still early (7pm) to have dinner. We decided to go look for nice food in other place, or town would passed by along the way back to Singapore. When we reached Pekan Nanas, I spotted this burger stall by the roadside, and the idea came into our mind - Ramly burger for dinner! We ordered few satay as well.

Yes, we all loved Ramly burgers. Malaysia one, not Singapore. Kukup, we will be back soon…
